Week 1

In WTA action, we had some major upsets and two players won their first career titles.  Greta Arn in Auckland, beating the top 2 seeds, Maria Sharapova and Yanina Wickmayer, on the way.  Petra Kvitova won in Sydney, defeating Andrea Petkovic in the final.

Switzerland had a good start on the ATP tour, with both Federer and Wawrinka winning titles.  The Swiss no. 1 beat Davydenko in final and their no. 2 knocked off Xavier Malisse in the final after beating top seed Tomas Berdych in the semis.  In Brisbane, the top two seeds made the final, where Robin Soderling took down Andy Roddick in straight sets.
