Brisbane Champions Strike Again

The two winners in Brisbane strike again, becoming the first double champions on the tours in 2011:  Robin Soderling and Petra Kvitova.  Soderling defeated Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the ATP 500 event in Rotterdam to defend his title there while Kvitova upended now no.1 Kim Clijsters at the Paris WTA Premier event.

In other news, Milos Raonic becomes the first champion from Canada since 1995 beating defending champion Fernando Verdasco in San Jose in two tiebreaks.  There were no breaks in the match.  Daniela Hantuchova won her first title since Linz in 2007, and 4th overall, by defeating Sara Errani in Pattaya City.  This occurred a day after she knocked off two-time defending champion and world no.3 Vera Zvonareva in the semis.  Nicolas Almagro won his 8th career title in Costa do Sauipe, cruising past Alexander Dolgopolov in the final.  Spain now has 3 titles in 2011 to lead all countries.
