In Shanghai, the ATP goes WTA on us and presents a quarterfinal field just as wild and wacky as any WTA Premier quarterfinal field this year. Remaining are only 5 of the 16 seeds, only 2 of the top 8, and one player ranked outside the top 100:
2) Andy Murray (GBR)
3) David Ferrer (ESP)
10) Andy Roddick (USA)
12) Alexandr Dolgopolov (UKR)
15) Florian Mayer (GER)
Feliciano Lopez (ESP)
Kei Nishikori (JPN)
Q) Matthew Ebden (AUS)
Murray remains the constant, staying force at this tournament that he has been since the Rogers Cup this summer. His loss to Nadal in the US Open SF is his only loss since Montreal. A number of players are in the quarters of a Masters event for the first time: Dolgopolov, Nishikori, and Ebden. Roddick has perhaps revived his season and deeper run here seems probable. Nadal mysteriously lost in straight sets to Mayer while Berdych's promising fall was set back by Lopez. Here are the quarterfinal matchups:
-Mayer vs Lopez
-Ferrer vs Roddick
-Dolgopolov vs Nishikori
-Murray vs Ebden
