Agnieszka Radwanska is rapidly becoming the Caroline Wozniacki of late '11/early '12 as she wins her 3rd Tier I title in 5 attempts. Now the world no. 4 will try and carry her momentum to the clay season, and ultimately, to the majors in Paris and London. Azarenka's winning streak was halted by Marion Bartoli in the QF of Miami, but the man who stole all the headlines at this time last year is again on top. And perhaps the most serious news was the withdrawal by Nadal from his SF match with Murray with knee problems.
Women's Final
5) Agnieszka Radwanska (POL) def. 2) Maria Sharapova (RUS) 7-5 6-4
-It is Radwanska's 9th career title and 2nd of 2012 (last '12 Dubai). It is her 3rd Tier I title.
-She did not drop a set in the tournament
-Prior to the final, Radwanska was just 1-7 against Sharapova
-It has to be discouraging for Sharapova to continue to be the runner-up as she has reached the final of the 3 biggest events (Aussie Open, Indian Wells, Miami) only to come up short.
-Bartoli stopped Azarenka's win streak at 26 in the QF with a 6-3 6-3 win
-Wozniacki stunned Serena to reach the semis but succumbed there to Sharapova in 3 sets.
-Azarenka now leads Sharapova by 1050 points as the tour turns to clay.
Men's Final
1) Novak Djokovic (SRB) def. 4) Andy Murray (GBR) 6-1 7-6(4)
-It is Djokovic's 30th career title, but his just 2nd of 2012 (last '12 Aussie Open) after his historic year of 2011
-He also did not drop a set in the tournament
-It is his 11th Masters title, tying him with Sampras for 4th all-time (behind Federer, Nadal, and Agassi). It is his 3rd Miami title.
-Juan Monaco upset Mardy Fish in straight sets to reach his 2nd Masters semi
-Nadal gave Murray a walkover to the final, citing knee pain, which is very worrisome given his history, but at this point, it doesn't appear to be too bad.
-Nadal's withdrawal meant didn't gain much ground over Federer, and so he leads him by 900 points going into the clay season. Federer still leads Murray by 1000 points and Djokovic leads Nadal by still 2700 points.
-The men now scatter for Davis Cup before the clay season begins. I'll have a Davis Cup rundown in the next couple days.
-Djokovic is now 8-5 against Murray. They haven't met much due to being 3 and 4 for most of their careers and thus being placed on opposite sides of the draw.
