Monte Carlo Quarterfinals

The big names (save Federer) are back in action at Monte Carlo's picturesque location as the clay season begins to pick up speed.  But the tournament hasn't been very kind to the lovers of dirt so far as Ferrer, Almagro, and Monaco have all been eliminated.  The Argentine, however, after rapidly crossing the ocean after his title in Houston, turned his ankle up a break in the 3rd set against Haase and had to retire.  Ferrer was dumped by Bellucci who in turn lost to Haase, while Almagro lost today to Wawrinka to continue his underwhelming performance at Masters events.  Tipsarevic was the other top 8 to fail to defend his seed as he lost today to Simon.

Here are the eight men still standing:
1) Novak Djokovic (SRB)
2) Rafael Nadal (ESP)
3) Andy Murray (GBR)
4) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA)
6) Tomas Berdych (CZE)
Gilles Simon (FRA)
Stanislas Wawrinka (SUI)
Robin Haase (NED)

-Nadal, Murray, Tsonga, and Wawrinka are yet to lose a yet.  Djokovic dropped the first set today to Dolgopolov.
-Nadal (Champion) and Murray (SF) are the only players to repeat quarterfinals from 2011.  Ferrer (F), Melzer (SF), Federer (QF), Troicki (QF), Gil (QF), and Ljubicic (QF) have all been eliminated.
-Gil, the surprise quarterfinalist last year, had to qualify for this edition, did so, then managed to upset Youzhny.
-Djokovic and Nadal are the only players to reach all 3 Masters quarterfinals this year.
-This is Haase's first career Masters quarterfinal, and occurs after losing to the Algerian wilcard ranked outside the top 700 last week in Casablanca.

Tomorrow's matchups:
Djokovic vs Haase
Murray vs Berdych
Tsonga vs Simon
Nadal vs Wawrinka
