Djokovic Completes Indian Wells/Miami Double, Serena Wins 7th Miami Title

So after all the chaos in Indian Wells and in portions of Miami, we ended up with two finals featuring the top two players in the world, both in seed and in world ranking.  Novak Djokovic completed the Indian Wells/Miami double, stopping Nadal in the final, while Serena Williams won Miami for the 7th time, which is a WTA record for the most times any single tournament has been won.  So while the top 10 in each tour seems to be weakening slightly, the top two remain strong.  Li has emerged this year as a fairly consistent no. 2 behind Serena, while Djokovic and Nadal are still well above the rest of the field.  Each Masters title is currently held by one of the two, although this is the first time they met in a Masters final since Monte Carlo 49 weeks ago.  Serena appeared to vulnerable this year with losses to Ivanovic and Cornet but he has regained some of her form and is still the one to beat.  With Sharapova in a slump, now ranked no. 9, and Azarenka hurt, Li is perhaps her only rival, at least until Radwanska shows me she can beat her.  But now we move to clay, where I expect several more Nadal-Djokovic matches and possibly more Serena-Li matches as well.

Men: 2) Novak Djokovic (SRB) def. 1) Rafael Nadal (ESP) 6-3 6-3

Women: 1) Serena Williams (USA) def. 2) Na Li (CHN) 7-5 6-1

-Djokovic wins 43rd career title, last '14 Indian Wells
-It is his 18th Masters win, which moves him ahead of Agassi for 3rd all time behind Nadal's 26 and Federer's 21
-It is his 4th win at Miami ('07,'11,'12)
-He has closed the gap with Nadal to under 2000 points.  During the clay season, Nadal is defending the French Open, Madrid, Rome, and Barcelona, plus the Monte Carlo final while Djokovic is defending Monte Carlo and some semis so the Serb will take aim at world no. 1.
-Federer rises to #4 in the rankings and is only 515 behind Wawrinka.
-We had the odd occurrence of both Nadal and Djokovic advancing to the final with a walkover, with both Nishikori and Berdych pulling out.
-Nishikori beat Federer in 3 sets and now owns a 2-1 head-to-head against while Berdych handled Dolgopolov for his best result of the year.
-The top 10 is now Nadal, Djokovic, Wawrinka, Federer, Berdych, Ferrer, Del Potro, Murray, Isner, Raonic

-Serena wins 59th career title, 2nd of 2014, last '14 Brisbane
-It is her 7th win in Miami ('02-'04,'07,'08,'13)
-She leads Li just over 5000 points but is defending a boatload of points in the clay season - last year she won Charleston, Madrid, Rome, French Open
-Sharapova beat Kvitova to reach the semis but played Serena there, and we all know how that turns out.
-Cibulkova beat Radwanska but then fell to Li in 3 sets.  Her consolation prize is a top 10 debut.
-The top 10 is now Serena, Li, Radwanska, Azarenka, Halep, Kvitova, Kerber, Jankovic, Sharapova, Cibulkova.

Since I've got this data, here are the 3rd set tiebreak winners over the past two weeks:  Roger-Vasselin def. Sijsling (7-3) R1, Matosevic def. Falla (8-6) R1, Chardy def. Monaco (7-5) R1, l-Becker def. Harrison (7-2) R2, Baghdatis def. 24-Kohlschreiber (7-5) R2, 22-Dolgopolov def. l-Lajovic (7-5) R3, 20-Nishikori def. 4-Ferrer (11-9) R4; 5-Kerber def. Peng (7-5) R2, Lepchenko def. 7-Jankovic (7-2) R2

My plan is to update the WTA Top 10 by Birth Year page and get a Davis Cup preview post out there for the quarterfinals and various zone group ties.  The women will be on green clay in Charleston and hard courts in Monterrey, Mexico.
