So the hot get hotter in Miami, the four that made the quarters at both Indian Wells and Miami all advanced to the semifinals, though the only real surprise of the quarterfinal round was Berdych. Now who will be able to keep those win streaks alive and advance to the final?
4) Rafael Nadal (ESP) def. 8) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA), 6-3, 6-2; Tsonga fails another attempt to take his game to that next level;
5) Robin Soderling (SWE) def. 13) Mikhail Youzhny (CZE), 6-1, 6-4; Soderling quickly becoming a player to be reckoned with;
6) Andy Roddick (USA) def. 33) Nicolas Almagro (ESP), 6-3, 6-3; The next Spaniard will be a much tougher for the American;
16) Tomas Berdych (CZE) def. 10) Fernando Verdasco (ESP), 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4; The Czech backs up his win over Federer with another big performance;
Today's semifinals include a blockbuster matchup and one with a clear favorite:
-Nadal vs Roddick
-Soderling vs Berdych
The women's final set, and should be a good one:
3) Venus Williams (USA) vs. 14) Kim Clijsters (BEL)
Venus leads the all time series, 6-5, but Kim won their only meeting since her comeback, in the fourth round of last year's US Open, by the strange score of 6-0, 0-6, 6-4. They are 3-3 on hard courts but Kim has won the last three. Venus will be going for her 44th WTA singles title, Kim her 37th. Certainly a matchup of stars.
And by the way, the semifinal scores were:
Williams def. Bartoli 6-3, 6-4
Clijsters def. Henin 6-2, 6-7(3), 7-6(6)
