Here is my two cents on what to be looking for at the 2010 French Open on the men's side. First a little recap from 2009.
Champion - Roger Federer (SUI)
Runner Up - Robin Soderling (SWE)
Semifinalists - Fernando Gonzalez (CHI), Juan Martin Del Potro (ARG)
Quarterfinalists - Andy Murray (GBR), Nikolay Davydenko (RUS), Gael Monfils (FRA), Tommy Robredo (ESP)
Interesting to see just one Spaniard in the quarterfinals and none in the semis whereas this year I would not be surprised to see the semis consisting of all Spaniards. So now on to 2010.
Possible Champions: Rafael Nadal (ESP), I think this list starts and ends with Rafa.
However if Rafa were to get injured I could one of these six winning the title: Roger Federer (SUI), Fernando Verdasco (ESP), Robin Soderling (SWE), Fernando Verdasco (ESP), David Ferrer (ESP), Juan Carlos Ferrero (ESP)
Other players poised to go deeper than their seed: Ernests Gulbis (LAT), Thiemo de Bakker (NED), John Isner (USA), Thomaz Bellucci (BRA)
Former champions in the draw: Only 3, Ferrero (2003), Nadal (2005-8), Federer (2009). Gaston Gaudio (ARG) (2004), won one match in qualifying but then lost yesterday.
Other slam winners in the draw: Hewitt, Roddick, Djokovic
Players who will really suffer rankings wise with early exits: Gonzalez, Monfils, Robredo
