Sam Querrey now has 4 titles in 2010, putting him in second place behind Nadal, by successfully defending his title LA. This is made even bigger for him because he beat world no. 4 Andy Murray, coming from a set down, 5-7, 7-6(2), 6-3. He now has 6 career titles.
Juan Carlos Ferrero is now in third place with 3 titles. He won last week in Umag, Croatia, defeating Potito Starace 6-4, 6-4. He has 15 career titles.
Nicolas Almagro is "en fuego", continuing Spanish dominance on clay, winning his 2nd title in 3 weeks in Gstaad, Switzerland. He beat Richard Gasquet 7-5, 6-1. The Spanish #4 now has 7 career titles
On the women's side, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia beat compatriot Elena Vesnina in a tight match in Istanbul 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 for her 2nd title of the year (and career). Could she be Russia's next best thing?
And the only player to win his/her first title of 2010 last week was one we likely expected to have already won a couple: Victoria Azarenka. She defeated Maria Sharapova in Stanford 6-4, 6-1 for her 4th career title. In a year that somewhat mediocre players have shined, is it time for Vika to shine and ascend into the top 5?
