US Open: Super Saturday

Kim Clijsters wins 3rd major championship

Kim Clijsters def. Vera Zvonareva 6-2, 6-1

In by far their most lopsided matchup, Clijsters adds another US Open trophy to her growing collection.  She has now won the '05 US Open, '09 US Open, '10 US Open, and remarkably, has a 21-match winning streak in Flushing Meadows.  She actually falls to #5 in the world due to other players having better tournaments than last year.  For Zvonareva, her prospects are looking up, having made the last two major finals, and she is at a career high, #4 in the world.

Djokovic spoils the party

We all thought we were going to get Federer-Nadal finally at the US Open, but then this Serb steps in the way, so we have

Rafael Nadal vs Novak Djokovic

for the 2010 US Open Championship.  I will officially declare the Federer era of men's tennis over, and if Nadal wins here, he can certainly rank among the best ever.  But Djokovic should be a challenge.  He is in form and has owned Nadal on hard courts.  Here are there 21 meetings, Nadal leading 14-7:

2006 French Open QF(clay):  Nadal 6-4, 6-4 ret.
2007 Indian Wells F (hard):  Nadal 6-2, 7-5
2007 Miami QF (hard):  Djokovic 6-3, 6-4
2007 Rome QF (clay):  Nadal 6-2, 6-3
2007 French Open SF (clay):  Nadal 7-5, 6-4, 6-2
2007 Wimbledon SF (grass):  Nadal 3-6, 6-1, 4-1 ret.
2007 Canada SF (hard):  Djokovic 7-5, 6-3
2007 Masters Cup (hard):  Nadal 6-4, 6-4
2008 Indian Wells SF (hard):  Djokovic 6-3, 6-2
2008 Hamburg SF (clay):  Nadal 7-5, 2-6, 6-2
2008 French Open SF (clay):  Nadal 6-4, 6-2, 7-6
2008 Queen's F (grass):  Nadal 7-6, 7-5
2008 Cincinatti SF (hard):  Djokovic 6-1, 7-5
2008 Olympics SF (hard):  Nadal 6-4, 1-6, 6-4
2009 Davis Cup (clay):  Nadal 6-4, 6-4, 6-1
2009 Monte Carlo F (clay):  Nadal 6-3, 2-6, 6-1
2009 Rome F (clay):  Nadal 7-6, 6-2
2009 Madrid SF (clay):  Nadal 3-6, 7-6, 7-6
2009 Cincinatti SF (hard):  Djokovic 6-1, 6-4
2009 Paris SF (hard):  Djokovic 6-2, 6-3
2009 World Tour Finals (hard):  Djokovic 7-6, 6-2

So while Nadal is 9-0, Djokovic leads 7-3 on hard courts.  I'm hoping for a good match.
