I thought about trying to list the top 10 of each age by weeding through the WTA rankings (since their site lists the player's DOB) but I ended coming up with this list, which is the top 100 sorted by birth.
I'll mention a few things that stood as I went through this data here. The number in front of each is the player's ranking after Indian Wells. There are 15 Russians, 10 Czechs, and 7 Americans. But except for Petrova and Zvonareva, all the Russians were born 1986 and after, so the "Russian Revolution" rolls on. Except for Kvitova, no Czech has been born since 1987 (Safarova). And the Americans have Serena, Venus, and young players (Mattek-Sands excepted). Actually, 3 of the 5 youngest players in the top 100 are American. Spain could be a country on the way down in tennis, since only Suarez Navarro was born since early 1984. Romania could be on the way with all 4 players born in 1987 or later.
It turns 1987 was the "golden year" to be born, at least for now. 14 of the top 100, 12 of the top 50, and 7 of the top 30 were born in '87. However, there are no top 10 players there. 1987 did have the most of any year with 1986 having 10 and 1989 having 9 as the next most. The 7 players who have won slams are mostly older: Venus and Schiavone in 1980, Serena in 1981, Clijsters in 1982, Kuznetsova in 1985, and Sharapova and Ivanovic in 1987.
I enjoyed going through, and I'm thinking about making this list into a page and updating it periodically.
