Jim Courier, Michael Chang, Pete Sampras, Marcelo Rios, Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, and now...
Novak Djokovic
These are the men who won both Indian Wells and Miami in the same year. It has now happened 8 times since 1990 (Federer did it twice). Djokovic has now won 7 Masters titles, and this placed him tied for 7th on the all-time list. This means a 24-0 start to the season for Djokovic, who has now won 4 titles in 2011, bringing him to 22 for his career. Now the question is: Will he be able to challenge Nadal only clay?
2) Novak Djokovic (SRB) def. 1) Rafael Nadal (ESP) 4-6, 6-3, 7-6(4)
To win Miami, Djokovic defeated Istomin, Blake, 16) Troicki, Anderson, 14) Fish, and 1) Nadal. It was his 2nd title in Miami, winning also in 2007.
Victoria Azarenka has regained her title in Miami that she previously won in 2009. It is her 6th career title and first for 2011. Can this win catapult her on to bigger and better things?
8) Victoria Azarenka (BLR) def. 16) Maria Sharapova (RUS) 6-1, 6-4
Vika defeated a number of good players on her way to championship. Her draw included Hradecka, 25) Cibulkova, 17) Pavlyuchenkova, 2) Clijsters, 3) Zvonareva, and 16) Sharapova.
In other news, Mardy Fish has become the #1 American and obtained a career high #11 in the rankings. We now move to clay, with tournaments next week in Houston and Casablanca for the men, and Charleston and Marbella for the women.
