The quarterfinals are set in Monte Carlo, where we excellent chance of getting the top 4 seeds through to the semis. This would be the 5th occurance of this phenomenon at a Masters event if it were to happen, and all four having been playing good tennis. Roger and Rafa are doing what they do, Murray seems to have rebounded from his 4 straight losses, and Ferrer is just grinding away and winning matches.
Quarterfinalists
1) Rafael Nadal (ESP)
2) Roger Federer (SUI)
3) Andy Murray (GBR)
4) David Ferrer (ESP)
7) Jurgen Melzer (AUT)
11) Viktor Troicki (SRB)
Ivan Ljubicic (CRO)
Federico Gil (POR)
Matchups
Nadal vs Ljubicic, Murray vs Gil
Ferrer vs Troicki, Federer vs Melzer
Fernando Verdsaco's ranking has taken a big hit (defending finals points) as he lost his first match to Robredo, who then retired in his next match. He also didn't enter Barcelona where he was the defending champion, and will drop out of the top 15. Almagro and Monfils had disappointing runs with the Frenchman losing to Gil (world no. 82) and Almagro nearly losing to M.Gonzalez then hardly showing up against Melzer. Where is the player who won 2 titles and made another final in Latin America a short time ago? A surprise here on the clay is Ivan Ljubicic, who beat Monaco, Tsonga, and Berdych on his way to the QF.
