I have added a page to this blog with a list of the top 10 for every birth year in WTA rankings database (1970-1996). There's a link to the page at the right.
This list was fairly easy compile given the sortable nature the WTA rankings. It shows the top 10 for every birth year. It can used to track a player's progress up the rankings among their "peers" or same age group. I will try and keep this up to date periodically, though probably not on weekly basis, and may add some comments each time. This list covers everyone in the WTA rankings database on their website (birth years 1970-1996). If anyone knows of a convenient way to get similar info on the ATP rankings, I will be happy to compile a similar list.
The first thing that jumps out here is what an oddity Kimiko Date-Krumm is, and even how rare players in their 30s are such as Venus Williams and Francesca Schiavone. Another useful thing about this list is it gives you young players to keep an eye on and see how well they are moving up the rankings.
