French Open: Women's Quarterfinals

With the Murray-Troicki match suspended for darkness after 4 sets, I thought I'd go ahead and run down the women's quarterfinalists and those stats I love to do rather than wait until sometime tomorrow when likely we'd already know 2 of the semifinalists.  For a second straight slam, there are no unseeded quarterfinalist.  And while Wozniacki, Clijsters, and Zvonareva have all bowed out, many of the other top seeds have marched right on, especially in the lower half where only Clijsters spot is taken by someone other than "it should have been".  This was the first slam in the Open era where the top two seeds failed to make the round of 16.  So here are the final eight:

4) Victoria Azarenka (BLR):  4th slam quarterfinal (2nd at French), 0-3 record (0-1), last '10 Aussie Open
5) Francesca Schiavone (ITA):  7th slam quarterfinal (3rd at French), 1-5 record (1-1), last '11 Aussie Open
6) Na Li (CHN):  6th slam quarterfinal (1st at French), 2-3 record, last '11 Aussie Open
7) Maria Sharapova (RUS):  14th slam quarterfinal (5th at French), 10-3 record (1-3), last '09 French Open
11) Marion Bartoli (FRA):  3rd slam quarterfinal (1st at French), 1-1 record, last '09 Aussie Open
13) Svetlana Kuznetsova (RUS):  12th slam quarterfinal (5th at French), 6-6 record (3-1), last '09 French Open
14) Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS):  1st slam quarterfinal
15) Andrea Petkovic (GER):  2nd slam quarterfinal (1st at French), 0-1 record, last '11 Aussie Open

Azarenka, my top pick to win the tournament, marches on, continuing in good form.  Sharapova's renaissance continues as does the "fairy tale" of Schiavone.  Kuznetsova and Li seem to have woken up (though Kuzzy obviously from a deeper sleep), and what of the youngsters Petkovic and Pavlyuchenkova?  The German has now reached back-to-back quarters while the Russian teen's progression continues with her first ever slam quarter after having nice results at Premier events.  Bartoli becomes the first Frenchwoman since Mary Pierce in '05 to reach the quarters at the French.

Matchups tomorrow and Wednesday:
-Bartoli vs Kuznetsova
-Schiavone vs Pavlyuchenkova
-Azarenka vs Li
-Sharapova vs Petkovic (AO rematch, won by Petkovic)

Top 15 in virtual rankings (to date including French points):
-Wozniacki, Clijsters, Zvonareva, Azarenka, Li
-Sharapova, Kvitova, Schiavone, Stosur, Bartoli
-Petkovic, Kuznetsova, Radwanska, Pavlyuchenkova, Jankovic
