Time to take a peak at some of the results so far in the Rogers Cup, and surprising results they have been. All four finalists from last year have been wiped out as have all the semifinalists except for Djokovic and Azarenka. And that includes the top 4 on the men's side. And actually, only Berdych is left of all eight losing quarterfinalists from 2010.
Men's Quarterfinalists
1) Novak Djokovic (SRB)
5) Gael Monfils (FRA)
6) Mardy Fish (USA)
7) Tomas Berdych (CZE)
8) Nicolas Almagro (ESP)
13) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA)
14) Stanislas Wawrinka (SUI)
Janko Tipsarevic (SRB)
This is a great chance for one of the second-tier players to steal a Masters event and some big ranking points, but of course that is going to require Djokovic losing. All 5-8 seeds are left plus Tsonga. What an opportunity but will anyone seize it, or will we see the world no. 1 crowned once more? This is another solid result for Berdych and he's not done here yet. He is flying way under the radar and having a great year, having reached the QF at almost every tournament he's contested.
Women's Quarterfinalists
4) Victoria Azarenka (BLR)
10) Samantha Stosur (AUS)
11) Andrea Petkovic (GER)
13) Agnieszka Radwanska (POL)
Roberta Vinci (ITA)
Lucie Safarova (CZE)
Serena Williams (USA)
Q) Galina Voskoboeva (KAZ)
This also is a very wide open tournament, depending on how you will Serena's chances, and I like them very well thank you. Unlike the men's tournament while though 3 of the top 4 are out there are still 5 top 10 players, here we have only 2 top 10'ers, and 4 unseeded women including a qualifier ranked outside the top 100. How about the Kazakh by the way, she has beaten Bartoli, Pennetta, and Sharapova? Also what a career run Vinci is having. She has 3 titles this year and now is through to a Premier quarterfinal with wins over Wickmayer, Wozniacki, and Ivanovic.
Quarterfinals tomorrow:
-Djokovic vs Monfils
-Almagro vs Tsonga
-Fish vs Wawrinka
-Berdych vs Tipsarevic
-Stosur vs Vinci
-Petkovic vs Radwanska
-Azarenka vs Voskoboeva
-Safarova vs Williams
