What do you know? The big 4 are all through to the semifinals for the second time this year, and with fairly little resistance. Tipsarevic and Isner each won one set and pushed Djokovic and Murray, respectively, in another but in the end they succumbed. Roddick won only 6 games against Nadal, while Tsonga only managed 10 against Federer, who he beat at Wimbledon and in Canada this year. It is the sixth consecutive major featuring at least 3 of the top 4 players.
Men's 2011 US Open Semifinalists
1) Novak Djokovic (SRB) - 13th major semifinal (5th at the US Open), 5-7 record (2-2), last '11 Wimbledon - 6th consecutive
2) Rafael Nadal (ESP) - 17th major semifinal (4th at the US Open), 13-3 record (1-2), last '11 Wimbledon - 3rd consecutive
3) Roger Federer (SUI) - 29th major semifinal (8th at the US Open), 23-5 record (6-1), last '11 French Open
4) Andy Murray (GBR) - 8th major semifinal (2nd at the US Open), 3-4 record (1-0), last '11 Wimbledon - 4th consecutive
While Federer slam success is staggering (I mean look at that 23-5 record in semis, which precludes the fact that he's made it to 29 now), Djokovic and Nadal are steadily building up quite a record of their own. We'll get quite a show tomorrow afternoon when Djokovic meets Federer and Nadal takes on Murray. Both matchups are pretty much tossups in my opinion, especially after the way Rafa dismantled Roddick, I'm not even going to bother to pick them.
