Federer Wins Unprecedented 6th Year End Championships

In London, Roger Federer won his 6th world tour finals championship, overcoming Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the final 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-3.  Federer is the only player to have won 6 such titles, moving past the 5 titles won by Lendl and Sampras.  Federer won his 4th title of this year, bringing him to 70 for his career.  He will also enter 2012 on a 17-match winning streak, dating back to his US Open loss to Djokovic.  However, the ending to this year is similar to that of last year, but Federer still ended up with no major titles this year.  We will see what next brings for the now on-a-roll 16-time major champion.

Federer did benefit from poor health/form in Djokovic and Murray, but still managed to beat down his old rival Nadal and he handled the other two in form players of the tournament in Ferrer and Tsonga.  His win moves him back to #3 in the world, and now he'll be defending his Doha title in a mere six weeks.  Nadal and Ferrer return home to Sevilla, Spain where they await Argentina in the Davis Cup final.  I'll have coverage on that this week before heading for hibernation.
