The quarterfinals are set in Bercy, and it's been a very uneventful tournament thus far. Every single second round match went only 2 sets, and only 4 sets required the winner to take 7 games with only 2 of those going to a tiebreaker. And it wasn't much better in today's third round. Only 2 matches went to the a third set, and just one those was finished as Fish had to retire against Monaco after blowing match points in the 2nd set. The top six seeds have all made it through to the quarters, and poor performances by potential London spoilers mean the field of eight for the World Tour Finals is sets: Djokovic, Nadal, Murray, Federer, Ferrer, Berdych, Tsonga, and Fish. Hopefully Fish's hamstring will be good to go.
Here are the eight players left standing:
1) Novak Djokovic (SRB)
2) Andy Murray (GBR)
3) Roger Federer (SUI)
4) David Ferrer (ESP)
5) Tomas Berdych (CZE)
6) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA)
John Isner (USA)
Juan Monaco (ARG)
Things are setting up though for a monster weekend, beginning with Djokovic/Tsonga tomorrow. We could get Federer/Murray on Saturday with the winner likely getting the Nole/Jo-Willy winner on Sunday. Monaco's performance and at Valencia (where he made the final) leaves Argentina's skipper Tito Vasquez a decision on who will play the second singles in the Davis Cup final alongside Del Potro. John Isner has made his first career Masters quarterfinal, taking advantage of the gap in the draw left by Del Potro. Eight different countries make up remaining eight.
Friday's matches:
-Djokovic vs Tsonga
-Ferrer vs Isner
-Federer vs Monaco
-Murray vs Berdych
