Kvitova is On Fire, Isner Wins Home Tourney Again

WTA Premier: New Haven, CT, United States
2) Petra Kvitova (CZE) def. 7) Maria Kirilenko (RUS) 7-6(9) 7-5

-Kvitova wins 9th career title, last '12 Montreal
-Other QF:  3) Caroline Wozniacki (DEN)-SF, 4) Sara Errani (ITA)-SF, 5) Marion Bartoli (FRA), 6) Dominika Cibulkova (SVK), 8) Lucie Safarova (CZE), Q) Olga Govortsova (BLR)
-Other seeds:  1) Radwanska (R2 ret. to Govortsova)
-Wozniacki's attempt to win 5 consecutive New Haven titles fell short against Kirilenko in the SF.
-Bartoli and Wozniacki were returning quarterfinalists from last year.
-Losing finalist Kirilenko is very quietly putting together a nice '12 campaign with a 28-16 record including QF at Wimbledon, 4th at the Olympics, and the SF here.  But she still hasn't won a title since 2008.
-The Americans went just 2-6 in this tournament, though 3 of them were qualifiers and lucky losers.  Stephens got one win and the other went to NCAA champion Nicole Gibbs over fellow qualifier Burdette.
-Petkovic defeated Babos in return from injury but then lost to Cibulkova.

WTA International: Dallas, TX, United States

-Lisicki chose not to defend her title.

-There was just one American in the draw, Falconi, who promptly lost to Parmentier.
-Vinci double bageled Jovanovski in the SF.
-Qualifers went 4-0 in R1 but all lost in R2 except Dellacqua.  The others were Parmentier, Lucic, and young Canadian Bouchard.

ATP 250: Winston-Salem, NC, United States
3) John Isner (USA) def. 2) Tomas Berdych (CZE) 3-6 6-4 7-6(9)

-Isner successfully defended his title.
-Isner and Dolgopolov were returning quarterfinalists from last year.
-Berdych had several championship points in the final, including one on his serve at 6-5 in the 3rd set tiebreak but he missed a relatively easy forehand.
-Every American in the draw (Isner, Roddick, Querrey, Young, Harrison, Blake, and Michael McClune) each had at least one, and they went 13-6 overall.
-It was Young's first win since Memphis and he is 3-21 on the season.
-Roddick beat Blake in two tiebreaks but then lost in turn to Darcis the same way.
-The final was not the longest 3rd set tiebreak in the tournament.  That was Melzer's win over McClune in R2, 12-10 in the 3rd set 'breaker.
-Qualifiers and wildcards went 6-0 in R1.  That was Becker, Gulbis, Stakhovsky, McClune, Harrison, and Blake.  Gulbis and Stakhovsky won R2 matches.
