Stosur Upsets Azarenka in Carlsbad, Del Potro Outduels Isner in DC

Juan Martin Del Potro hasn't missed a beat since pressing Djokovic in the Wimbledon semis, outlasting one of the tour hottest men, Isner, in 3 sets in the Washington final.  Is this the beginning of another amazing summer for the Argentine?  Samantha Stosur had all but disappeared from the headlines of the WTA, but she upset Azarenka in the Carlsbad final, making us wonder if she might become a player in Toronto, Cincinnati, and New York.  Petkovic had perhaps her best week since returning from injury in the women's DC event, but came short in the final against Magdalena Rybarikova, who defended her Washington title from 2012 is quietly rising in the rankings and having a career year.  And in the final clay event of the season, Marcel Granollers overcame a first bagel to defeat Monaco in the Kitzbuhel final.

Good Stories
-James Duckworth (AUS), a 21-yr-old now ranked no. 153, has won back-to-back first round matches in ATP events Bogota and Washington.
-Dominic Thiem (AUT), a 19-yr-old former boys French Open finalist, ranked outside the top 250, defeated Kuznetsov and Austrian no. 1 Melzer en route to his first ATP quarterfinal in Kitzbuhel.  Is this the passing of the torch for Austrian tennis?
-Seeded players in Carlsbad went 14-2 in the first two rounds, but somehow wildcard Razzano managed to sneak into the semis.  This after all the inconsistencies of the past months for top 10 women.

Bad Stories
-Alexandr Dolgopolov (UKR), whose title defense in Washington ended in his opening round match against a qualifier.  He now drops to no. 37 in the world.
-Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER), a finalist last year in Kitzbuhel and the top seed there this year, crashing out in his opening match against L.Mayer.
-Sloane Stephens (USA) had a chance to shine as the second seed in Washington, DC, but instead lost in the first round to Puchkova.
