Indian Wells: Women's Quarterfinals

Wow, didn't see that stream of upsets coming.  After the first 3 rounds of the tournament there had been a few big names falling out (Watson def. Radwanska, Tsurenko def. Petkovic) but most of the top 10 was still in tact.  Then, BAM!  Tsurenko takes out Bouchard, and the Ukrainian is into the quarters at Indian Wells.  She's been a nice top 100 but reached only 1 WTA quarterfinal last year, the SF at Tashkent, one of the worst attending events on tour, and Bouchard had been playing.  Jankovic is still alive and suddenly has a good chance to reach the final.  This was after I though Bencic might make a move after beating Wozniacki.  Lisicki, who's been miserable for several months, takes out the in-form Garcia, after beating Vinci and Errani, one of whom I'd thought would pick her off.  And then there's the defending champion Pennetta, who I'd completely forgotten about, taking out Sharapova, who was fresh off a win over Azarenka.  In the top half, Serena advancing isn't a surprise, although she did drop a set to Stephens, who by the way is looking better with wins over Kuznetsova and Kerber.  Then neither Makarova nor Safarova advanced and instead the tour's hottest player, now toting a 15-match win streak, Bacsinszky fended off another Ukrainian, Svitolina, who I've started to give up on.  And then we Halep, who silenced another in-form player in Pliskova and of course, Suarez Navarro, who leads the tour in quarterfinals (mostly at smaller events) and hasn't lost must to players ranked below her this year.

So that's my thoughts on what was a crazy round or one.  Looking forward to seeing what Bacsinszky can do against Serena.

Quarterfinal matchups:
-Serena vs Bacsinszky
-Halep vs Suarez Navarro
-Jankovic vs Tsurenko
-Pennetta vs Lisicki

Pennetta (W), Halep (SF), Jankovic (QF) were all in the quarters in Indian Wells last year, a tournament that has often produced a surprise champion, although Serena is in the draw this year.
