Miami Quarterfinals

So if Indian Wells went according to form through the early rounds, Miami did not, especially on the women's side.  However, the tournament did suffer from players such as Azarenka, Federer, and Nadal pulling out.

All the women's quarterfinalists are seeded, but there are 5 of the top 8 remain, while only 4 of the top 8 survived to this point after Djokovic was stunned last night by Haas.

Men
2) Andy Murray (GBR)
3) David Ferrer (ESP)
4) Tomas Berdych (CZE)
8) Richard Gasquet (FRA)
9) Marin Cilic (CRO)
11) Gilles Simon (FRA)
15) Tommy Haas (GER)
Jurgen Melzer (AUT)

-Murray and Ferrer reached the quarters in 2012 also.
-Murray and Tsonga reached the quarters at both Indian Wells and Miami this year.
-Djokovic, Tipsarevic and Tsonga were within one match of joining that list while Monaco was dumped out early yet again and will plummet in the rankings.
-Seven different countries are represented with France having two.

Women
1) Serena Williams (USA)
3) Maria Sharapova (RUS)
4) Agnieszka Radwanska (POL)
5) Na Li (CHN)
8) Sara Errani (ITA)
15) Roberta Vinci (ITA)
22) Jelena Jankovic (SRB)
30) Kirsten Flipkens (BEL)

-Serena, Sharapova, Radwanska, and Li reached the quarters in 2012 also.
-Sharapova and Errani reached the quarters at both Indian Wells and Miami this year.
-Bartoli, Wozniacki both lost early and Venus withdrew with injury before her 3rd round match.
-Seven different countries are represented with Italy having two.

I expected to see the top four men advancing to the semis but then Haas upset Djokovic.  Could this be the first tournament other than Paris to see a non-Big 4 champion since 3 years ago when Roddick won Miami?  It will be up to Murray.  Murray, Ferrer, and Cilic have yet to drop a set while Berdych lost the first set twice and then went to a tiebreak in the second set before prevailing in three, but he just beat Querrey with the loss of two games.  Melzer took advantage of Del Potro's early loss to Kamke to reach the quarters by beating Ramos.  We had two big time 4th round matches as Cilic upset Tsonga and Simon outlasted Tipsarevic.

The women have had their bumps along the way to the quarters, expect for Sharapova, who hasn't lost more the 4 games in a set.  Li and Jankovic also haven't lost a set, but Li already taken out by Serena.  Speaking of the American, Serena dropped a set in the 4th round to Cibulkova.  One would expect Serena to be able to punch through this draw but at times she hasn't looked her best.  Wozniacki bombed against Muguruza (who reaches back-to-back 4th rounds in Miami) while Kerber and Kvitova were bounced out by Cirstea and Flipkens.  The latter continues to build on a career season.  The big time 4th round match was Errani ousting Ivanovic while Stephens snapped her losing string before falling there to Radwanska.

American play
The Americans continued their atrocious play on the men's side, going 4-8 with only Blake getting two wins.  17-Querrey and 20-Isner each notched one win, then Querrey went on to the 4th round when Raonic pulled out, but they lost in straight sets to Berdych and Cilic.  First round losers were Harrison, q-Smyczek, q-Ginepri, q-Ram, and Williams.

The women fared much better at 12-11 with most of the players getting a win.  Serena went 3-0 while 16-Stephens, 19-Venus, 23-Lepchenko, McHale, Hampton, Keys, q-Mattek-Sands, l-Davis, and Duval won first round matches.  Only q-Burdette and q-Kiick lost their opening match.  It was nice to see Lepchenko and McHale get back to winning.  Davis knocked out Keys who knocked out Kiick.  That's another round of young women appearing on the scene in Duval and Kiick.
