On Fire and Unexpected Finals Results

The hottest player on the WTA tour is now Agnes Szavay (HUN) who has now won 10 straight matches while winning back-to-back WTA International titles in Budapest (where she defended here championship) and Prague.  This moves her up to #38.  She defeated Barbora Zahlavova Strycova (CZE) 6-2, 1-6, 6-2. The Czech no. 2 is now up to #39 in the rankings, moving up 13 spots.  Hungary is now the only country to have multiple titles and all of them won by the same person.

In the other finals, we had unexpected results.  Robin Soderling lost on home clay to Nicolas Almagro 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 while another Spaniard, Albert Montanes bagged his second title of the year over Gael Monfils, who retired with an ankle injury.  Spain now has 15 titles (14 of them men), 4 more than the 2nd place country, USA.

Kaia Kanepi (EST) also continued her surge by upsetting Flavia Pennetta (ITA) on her home clay in Palermo 6-4, 6-3.  The Estonian is now back up to #36 in the rankings.
