After the big upset "this morning" knocking out the world no. 1, these eight men have survived to the quarterfinal stage in Shanghai:
2) Novak Djokovic (SRB)
3) Roger Federer (SUI)
4) Andy Murray (GBR)
5) Robin Soderling (SWE)
12) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA)
13) Jurgen Melzer (AUT)
Juan Monaco (ARG)
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (ESP)
Both finalists from last year have crashed out early (Nadal to Melzer, Davydenko to qualifier Zverev). Melzer trying to keep his slim hopes of making the WTF in London alive. Soderling is only player to successfully defend quarterfinal points, while Djokovic needs one more win to match his performance from last year. Federer and Murray were both absent in 2009 so they are adding points. Murray has also clinched a spot in London with his quarterfinal appearance. It is good to see Tsonga back in action and winning. Here are your matchups for "tomorrow morning":
Melzer vs Monaco
Murray vs Tsonga
Federer vs Soderling
Djokovic vs Garcia-Lopez
Funny how Soderling and Federer always end up in the same quarter and Fed and the Djoker are always opposite Murray and Nadal.
