Federer Dominates Djokovic in Cincinnati, Li Wins First Title Since French Open

Roger Federer reasserted his 2012 dominance with a win over Djokovic which again tied him with Nadal for most Masters titles all-time.  Na Li won her first ever "Tier I" title and her first title since her French Open championship, and her current form suggests she may be one of the women to beat in New York.

1) Roger Federer (SUI) def. 2) Novak Djokovic (SRB) 6-0 7-6(7)

-Federer wins his 76th career title, 6th of 2012, last '12 Wimbledon
-It is his 3rd Masters of the year, the last time he won 3 in one season was '06; he won at least 3 Masters (not including Masters Cup/World Tour Finals) 3 times ('04-'06)
-It is his 21st Masters title, which ties him with Nadal for most all-time
-It is his 5th win in Cincinnati
-He is now 895 points ahead of Djokovic, which means he will remain no. 1 through the US Open.

9) Na Li (CHN) def. 5) Angelique Kerber (GER) 1-6 6-3 6-1

-Li wins her 6th career title, last '11 French Open
-It is her first top-level/Tier I title
-Li stays at #9 in the world while Kerber improves to #6
-Azarenka leads Radwanska by 910 points

Since I was out of town, I missed my usual quarterfinal post, so here are a few things that would have been there.

ATP quarterfinalists:  6) Juan Martin Del Potro (ARG)-SF, 8) Mardy Fish (USA), 12) Marin Cilic (CRO), Stanislas Wawrinka (SUI)-SF, Milos Raonic (CAN), L) Jeremy Chardy (FRA)

-Djokovic, Fish, and Raonic made the quarters in both Toronto and Cincinnati.  Djokovic had the exact same result as last year.
-Federer, Djokovic, and Fish made the quarters in Cincinnati in both '11 and '12.
-Fish didn't get quite the same results as last year (F/SF), but still a solid result especially given where he's been this year.  Is this double QF by Raonic a sign he's finally moving upward again.  Chardy has a made lots of progress this year and is near his career high ranking of 31 (he is now 33) and reached his 2nd Masters quarter (last '10 Toronto).  Wawrinka has also snapped out of a months-long slump.

WTA quarterfinalists:  1) Agnieszka Radwanska (POL), 2) Serena Williams (USA), 3) Samantha Stosur (AUS), 4) Petra Kvitova (CZE)-SF, 17) Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (RUS), Venus Williams (USA)-SF

-Radwanska, Kvitova, and Li made the quarters in both Toronto and Cincinnati.  The latter two both made semis and Li made both finals.  Does this mean they should be feared in New York or did the leading ladies get their work in and rest up?
-Stosur was the only woman to make the quarters in Cincinnati in both '11 and '12.
-The top 5 seeds made the quarters, but the top 3 all lost there.  I keep saying this week after week but another good result for Pavlyuchenkova and she may be "back to normal".  Venus is giving a push to be a dark horse at the US Open.  This could be a wide open US Open, but in a good way!

I'll get a US Open preview up later this week.
