US Open: Men's Semifinals

The streak is over!  It had been 9 consecutive majors where at least 3 of the big 4 reached the semis but with Berdych's upset of Federer (and Nadal's withdrawal) the streak is broken.  However, thanks to a 5th set tiebreak, Ferrer extends the streak of majors where 3 of the top 4 seeds reached the semis.  The last major to not have 3 of the top 4 players in the world was the '10 French Open, which actually included only one:  Nadal, along with Berdych, Soderling, and Melzer.  Each of the big 4 took turns missing major semis here and there, except Djokovic, who has made every semi since.

But here are the last four, with two of the big 4:
2) Novak Djokovic (SRB) - 17th major semifinal (6th at the US Open), 8-8 record (3-2), 10th consecutive SF
3) Andy Murray (GBR) - 11th major semifinal (3rd at the US Open), 4-6 record (1-1), 2nd consecutive SF
4) David Ferrer (ESP) - 4th major semifinal (2nd at the US Open), 0-3 record (0-1), last '12 French Open
6) Tomas Berdych (CZE) - 3rd major semifinal (1st at the US Open), 1-1 record, last '10 Wimbledon

-These men have now combined to reach 35 major semis, which is (stop the presses) LESS than the women's 43.  Remove Federer and while still a stellar field, it can't quite match the prestige of Williams and Sharapova.
-Murray has clinched a spot in the World Tour Finals, and a win by Ferrer would put him in as well.
-Federer lost in the quarters of the US Open for the first time in his career, it was his earliest exit since '03.
-The scoreline of the epic Ferrer-Tipsarevic match was 6-3 6-7(5) 2-6 6-3 7-6(4)

Saturday's semis:
-Murray vs Berdych
-Djokovic vs Ferrer

I like Djokovic against Ferrer but Murray against Berdych is a toss-up.  I actually think the Czech may pull an upset.
