This is a little late in getting out there since the 3rd round is underway, but I wanted to post some of the stats on seeded players as well as recap the Americans play, which has been very good.
An unbelievable number of seeded players (30 in all) have already crashed out of the '15 Aussie Open after 2 rounds, which is an historic number. I've been tracking this data since '09. The average of seeds out in the first 2 rounds (over those 6 years) is 10 men and 12 women. This year 16 men and 14 women have been eliminated. The 14 women isn't unprecedented as in the last 6 years at least 14 seeds have been sent packing early 5 times, with the most being '13 Wimbledon, the tournament won by Bartoli over Lisicki. But 16 men losing this early is ridiculous. The most previously (in the last 6 years) was 14, at that same Wimbledon. The 10 seeded men who lost in round 2 also shatters (my) record, with 7 happening on a few occasions. And the 11 seeded women who lost in round 1 (they recovered nicely with only 3 seeds losing in round 2), that's the most on my charts, although Todd Spiker has data back farther and said it happened at '02 French Open and '04 Wimbledon. So anyway, it could be an interesting remainder of the tournament, although save Ivanovic and Wozniacki, the big names have survived and we are yet to be guaranteed an unseeded quarterfinalist in either draw.
Here is the lengthy list of eliminated seeds:
