After all the havoc early on in the Aussie Open, the big names still remaining have mostly found their ways to the quarterfinals, with 7 of the top 8 seeds advancing on the men's side (and the one missing is Federer) and 6 top 11 seeds left on the women's side plus a 7-time major champion. There is though one unseeded quarterfinalist left in both draws.
Here are the quarterfinalists:
Men
1) Novak Djokovic (SRB) - 31st major quarterfinal (8th at the AO), 24-6 record (4-3), 23rd consecutive QF
3) Rafael Nadal (ESP) - 28th major quarterfinal (8th at the AO), 23-4 record (4-3), last '14 French Open
4) Stan Wawrinka (SUI) - 8th major quarterfinal (3rd at the AO), 2-5 record (1-1), 3rd consecutive QF

11) Dominika Cibulkova (SVK) - 6th major quarterfinal (2nd at the AO), 2-3 record (1-0), last '14 Aussie Open
18) Venus Williams (USA) - 34 major quarterfinal (8th at the AO), 19-14 record (2-5), last '10 Wimbledon
Madison Keys (USA) - 1st major quarterfinal!
-The men have now combined to reach 109 QFs, less than the 115 now reached the women, one of the few this has happened recently, thanks to the departure of Federer and Venus joining Serena at this late stage.
-There are eight different countries represented in the men's draw but only 5 in the women's draw with 3 Americans and 2 Russians.
-Djokovic, Berdych, Halep, and Makarova are the only players yet to drop a set.
The American women have continued to excel but the men were finished in round 3 (a big disapointment for Isner). Here's their results since my last post:
