One double-digit champion marches on, another takes a seat. Two Americans and two Russians are left on the women's side. A rising teenager takes out a 7-time major champion. The last Aussie has been eliminated. The semifinals are upon us in Melbourne.
Here are the semifinalists:
Men
1) Novak Djokovic (SRB) - 25th major semifinal (5th at the AO), 14-10 record (4-0), 4th consecutive SF
4) Stan Wawrinka (SUI) - 3rd major semirfinal (2nd at the AO), 1-1 record (1-0), last '14 Aussie Open
6) Andy Murray (GBR) - 14th major semifinal (5th at the AO), 6-7 record (3-1), last '14 French Open
7) Tomas Berdych (CZE) - 5th major semifinal (2nd at the AO), 1-3 record (0-1), last '14 Aussie Open
Women
1) Serena Williams (USA) - 26th major semifinal (6th at the AO), 22-3 record (5-0), 2nd consecutive SF
2) Maria Sharapova (RUS) - 19th major semifinal (7th at the AO), 9-9 record (3-3), last '14 French Open
10) Ekaterina Makarova (RUS) - 2nd major semifinal (1st at the AO), 0-1 record, 2nd consecutive SF
Madison Keys (USA) - 1st major semifinal!
-The men have now combined to reach 47 SFs, which again trails less the 48 now reached the women.
-Serena has such an incredible record once she gets to this stage of the tournament, losing far more often in the quarterfinals than in either the semis of final.
-Interesting to Djokovic almost equal to Serena in SF reached despite the age difference.
-Djokovic, Berdych, and Makarova are the only players yet to drop a set.
The American women have another emergent "great hope" in 19-yr-old Keys. Now the questions becomes whether or not she can sustain this or will follow the path of Stephens, Oudin, and others.
American Men (6-7)
American Women (28-15)

Former junior champion eliminated in QF: Kyrgios (l. to Murray)
